Mojo Monday: Pulitzer Prize Winner Jennifer Egan Says, “All That Matters….”

It’s Mojo Monday, and as always, I’ve got a little something-something to lift your spirits, buoy you up, and help you get your mojo on.

Today? Jennifer Egan.  Author of my favorite book of the year A Visit from the Goon Squad and, as of a few days ago, winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

What advice does this word maven give to writers?

Pretty simple really: “All that matters…and the hardest thing…and this is really hard…is just to try to do some decent work…and keep getting better.”

That, and stop worrying about the Joneses.

Watch.

  1. So true. All we can do is keep doing what we’re doing because we love it. I don’t write for fame and glory, or for money, for that matter. I write because I have something to say and people want to hear what I have to say.

  2. I think that her sentiment of just try to do some decent work and to keep getting better not only applies to writers and other artists but to everyone and life in general. We should all try to do “decent work” and strive to be better, to be better citizens, friends, neighbors, etc.. Thanks for sharing this interview.
